The Reveal by Tara Castator – This piece is apart of a two part set titled “The Trim and The Reveal”. They were inspired by elements of architecture which have the same function: they are both thresholds or mediators between two things. In an architectural sense, the trim and the reveal have the same function but this function is achieved in two different ways: the trim mediates through addition and the reveal through subtraction. A piece of trim is a positive piece of material which conceals the joining of two different and imperfect things. The reveal joins through negative space. Both drawings seen simultaneously hope to get the viewer to think about how whole objects can be created through two opposite means.
